This page covers Cambridgeshire families in the maternal line of John's third great grandfather John MARIS. The narrative starts with ninth great grandfather John MARSH who lived in West Wratting
Little is yet known about John who died intestate in 1613. He married Ellyn and had four children between 1584 and 1598. When Ellyn died in 1639, she left only twelve pence to her son Thomas who is presumed to have inherited property on his father's death. Ellyn's will names four grandchildren - two of them inheriting property.
Thomas was the third child of John and Ellyn MARSH. He married Mary MISSING in West Wratting in 1620 and had two known children.
Of Thomas's siblings, John (1584) married the daughter of Gilbert WESTLEY and probably died before 1639 as his son John inherited property from his grandmother Margaret (1592) married George NOT in 1616. She had probably died by 1639 as her daughter Margaret NOT inherited property from her grandmother. Nothing is known of Frances (1598).
John was probably the first surviving child of Thomas and Mary MARSH. He married Elizabeth DOYVE in Shudy Camps in 1668 and their three children were baptised in either West Wratting or Shudy Camps. John later moved to Linton where he was a husbandman. When he died in 1707, John left property in Linton to his wife Elizabeth in her lifetime and thence to his daughter Mary and son John.
Nothing is known of John's brother William (1639) except that he was named in his grandmother's will in 1639.
John was the firstborn child of John MARSH and Elizabeth DOVYE. He was baptised in West Wratting and married Ann BOUTCHER, daughter of John and Ann, in Hadstock in 1668. They had seven sons and two daughters - all born in Linton where John died in 1730 having spent his latter years working as a cordwainer. His will left property in Linton to his sons John, Isaac, Jacob, James and Robert with cash legacies to his son Abraham and daughter Elizabeth.
Of John's siblings, Robert (1671) was not named in his father's will dated 1699, but his sister Mary (1670) was appointed joint executor with her mother Elizabeth.

Rebecca was the third child of Abraham MARSH and Susan SAGGERS. She was baptised in Linton where she married Thomas MARIS, son of John MARIS and Elizabeth TUNWELL, in 1779. Thomas worked as a collarmaker in his family's harness making business in Linton High Street. Thomas and Rebecca had five children - three of them employed in the family business. Thomas died in 1823 and Rebecca in 1825. In her will dated 1825, she left the business to her sons John and Thomas, cash sums to her daughters Mary and Elizabeth and her personal estate was shared between John, Thomas and her daughter Rebecca.
Of Rebecca's siblings, Richard (1743) married Lucy BECKWAY; Abraham (1747) married Ann COLE and had six children and Elizabeth (1760) married Francis SAGGERS.
