Local Searches
Census data can be searched on microfilm or microfiche at local libraries and LDS Church Family History Centres. The Familia website has details of what resources are available in each public library.Ancestry.co.uk
Ancestry has been indexing and digitizing census returns for England & Wales making them available to subscribers to their UK & Ireland records collection. Returns for 1841, 1851, 1861, 1871, 1881, 1891 & 1901 are now available. Users can search the indexes, download and print individual census returns.The Ancestry UK & Ireland Collection is available by annual or quarterly subscription and by "Pay per View". Each gives unlimited access to the whole collection and not just census returns.
English Origins
English Origins - part of The Origins Network - has put online indexes to and digitized images of 1841, 1861 and 1871 census returns for counties in England and Wales.Access to The Origins Network is "Pay per View" with a choice of tariff ranging from 72 hours up to one year. findmypast.com (formerly 1837online.com)
1841, 1861, 1871, 1881 and 1891 census returns for England and Wales are now available online from findmypast. The 1901 census is partially complete and the 1851 census is pending. There is a FREE index search - including occupation. Downloading transcripts or images is on a "Pay per View" basis.
